Welcome To Ancram

Ancram is a small town with history that dates back before the American Revolution. The site of the first iron factory in colonial New York, Ancram made the iron for the cannonballs fired by the Revolutionary-era Continental Army. The Ancram Iron Works was converted into a paper mill in the mid-1800s that remains in operation today. Tucked into the southeast corner of Columbia County, Ancram shares an eastern border with the state of Massachusetts. The waters of the Roeliff Jansen Kill meander through town and flow into the Hudson River. The town is home to many farms and agricultural businesses, including dairy, cattle, and horse breeding farms.
