Stone House Properties is proud to announce a new organizational initiative for Breast Cancer Awareness. For every property sold during the month of October, Stone House will make a donation to the Denise Kaley Fund for Berkshire County Women with Cancer.Denise Kaley was a local massage therapist who died of lung cancer at the age of 46 in 2010. Kaley spent her last month of life working with her close friend Barbara Bonner to establish a fund to help women with cancer who came after her. The fund, run through the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, supports women in serious financial need with their day-to-day expenses while they undergo cancer treatments.
Previous recipients of the grant include a 56-year-old woman with pancreatic cancer. The sole provider of her family, she received help with her fuel bill. A 32-year-old woman with breast cancer, who was unable to work during her treatment process, received assistance for a daycare provider for her 2-year-old and infant children. In the 14 years since its inception, the Denise Kaley Fund now makes grants to women on a near-weekly basis.Barbara Bonner remains involved in the fund’s committee. She is joined by two other advisors, Ellen Casey Boyd and Beth Rose, in hearing the stories of the women in our community in need.
In recent years, Denise Kaley’s legacy has been expanded into not just monetary assistance, but a health coaching initiative at the Phelps Cancer Center in Pittsfield. Denise Kaley Health Coaching Through Cancer is designed for women at every stage of their cancer journey, from the initial diagnosis to those who have completed treatment. Patients work with Health Coach Amanda Bayliss for a holistic approach to health, including nutrition, lifestyle changes, stress reduction techniques, and a focus on building community.
