Homes for sale in Berkshire County are more in demand than ever. In many parts of the country, the coronavirus epidemic is spurring more interest in locations away from densely populated urban areas, and the Berkshires is no exception to the current trend.
As reported in the Berkshire Eagle on June 19, we’re seeing an increase in sales stemming from several factors, including buyers from New York City who want less densely populated areas, historically low interest rates, and greater availability of fiber-optic technology that makes it easier for people to work from home.
The market is active with first-time homebuyers and families with children who are looking for primary residences, rather than second homes. As the Berkshire Eagle reported, “Despite a shortage of inventory, pending sales of single-family homes in the Berkshires at the end of May were up 28 percent from last year, with 187 homes under agreement, compared with 146 at this time in 2019, according to the Berkshire County Board of Realtors.
Although Berkshire County real estate is selling at all price points, the Berkshire County Board of REALTORS noted in their 2020 first quarter report that all areas of the county share “a lack of inventory in the ranges that the region’s workforce can afford, and an abundance of inventory in the high-end price ranges.”
