Located between Hudson and Craryville, Claverack is a predominantly rural town of about 5,600 people. Claverack encompasses the hamlets of Churchtown, Claverack, Hollowville, Mellenville, and the Village of Philmont. The Village of Philmont operates as a municipality with its own local government and services. Founded in 1788, Claverack is home to many historic homes and buildings dating to the 18th century.

Claverack Town Park

Hudson City School District
 
  • The Hudson City School District is one of two public school districts that serve Claverack residents depending on their location.
  • The district serves a student population of about 1,700.
  • Three schools make up the district, all located Hudson: Montgomery C. Smith Elementary School, Hudson Junior High School, and Hudson Senior High School.
Taconic Hills Central School District

Won Dharma Center
 
  • Located in Claverack, this meditation and retreat center offers daily meditation services, workshops, and retreats based on the teachings of Won Buddhism.
  • Set on 426 acres, its grounds and walking trails are open to the public daily from April to November.
 
Philmont Cooperative (left) provides a community hub and focal point through its market, cafe, and kitchen owned and operated by its members. Opened in 2011, the Won Dharma Center (right) is a retreat center open to all from any faith to no faith. The center offers programs based on the practices of Won Buddhism.
