Welcome to Sheffield

The South Berkshire community of Sheffield holds the distinction of the oldest town in Berkshire County. The first English settler arrived in 1725 and the town was incorporated in 1733. Colonial farmers in Sheffield backed one of the earliest calls against British rule in the 1773 Sheffield Resolves. Agricultural production is still an important part of Sheffield's economy.
