Welcome to New Lebanon

Tucked into the northeastern corner of Columbia County along the New York-Massachusetts state line, New Lebanon is a town of about 2,500 people. New Lebanon's history is rooted in the Shakers, who established a religious community there in 1787. At its height in the mid-19th century, the Mount Lebanon Shaker Society reached a population of about 600. The community closed in 1947 and today is a museum and historic site. New Lebanon in the 21st century is a well-organized town where local government includes a climate-smart initiative to reduce the community's carbon footprint and a committee to promote and encourage business and economic growth. There's also a broadband committee to monitor access to high-speed internet service. New Lebanon residents can enjoy an active library and a busy restaurant scene right in town.
